SSLAA BATU!!

Ever wondered WHY i joined SSLAA?

Seriously, I didn't know why I did that too. Might have been because Mr. Ken asked me to attend the meeting and i suddenly became inspired to join the club or something as such, i couldn't remember. But I guess I would like to remember these few things...

My fun experience being in SSLAA, which is what makes SSLAA special...

SSLAA is not like your ordinary club, society, associations in any other schools and colleges around. It is definltely not dead or indifferent, it is just SPECIAL. It is out of one's very own imagination and yes, through SSLAA and its active members, we all managed to climb more steps and learn more along the way.

Although like any other clubs and societies, SSLAA faced many difficulties. Running events were never easy. Had to get a lot of manpower and worry about the outcomes and the possibility of failures and problems, do more planning and co-ordinating with members. But with the last huge event we did (the International Women's Week 08), I am convinced that our team has grown stronger and more mature in organizing big-scaled events.

In order to keep up with the momentum that we have just created, SSLAA moved on to expanding its database, recruiting new members. But of course, we do not want to lose our core members, our long-term members who had been there to always support us along the way.

A big thank you to all who is still around, supporting SSLAA all the way, with the little bit of strength and might in your hearts.

Without any one of them, SSLAA would not have been able to achieve whatever they have achieved. And it would have definitely been better if we had a lot more help from other people who could ease our load....

But all in all, SSLAA members managed to stay strong.

Keep up the good work, people!

All the best to everyone, especially the senior members who have entered Year 3 and are struggling in their studies and still made time for SSLAA. Core members who really helped a lot in SSLAA, thank you for your commitment and your interest in building SSLAA up. To the new members, thank you for your interest in joining us and being part of our family. We need your ideas, thoughts, and many other things that you think you could contribute to aid us in propeling ourselves further into the bright future that we all have.

Last but not least, to all who have yet to join... What's stopping you from joining us?

If your mind ask you why should you join, ask your mind this question in return, "Why NOT?"

After all, SSLAA is a wonderful family to be in...

During meeting, while explaining Mendeleev's theory nd Newton's second law. these fun people suddenly barged in and gave me a surprise birthday cake and a birthday song.. So shocked but at the same time, happy...

Thank you, members who planned a surprise cake for me. Although my birthday passed 2 days ago (on Tuesday, not now), u all did take the effort to make it something special. Seriously, i was caught off-guard ...
6 flavors one leh! haha. and i m not 3-yrs old. i m 21.... haha

Benji enjoying food...... But too bad la, he had to skice the cakes for us to share. So sweet of all who got the cakes... THANKS!!
Luncheon on Wednesday...... food, anyone?
Performers for our Luncheon, Aaron and Celine

It was a great performance. Well, anyone else wants to perform next time? Tell Aaron and he would get things sorted out for you!!

Club's Day

Dear all SSLAA members,

I hope that you all had a great rest for the few days. And yes, many complained about Mr. Sharaad's notes for Alternative Voices. I dread that too. Sometimes i wonder if my English sucked or rather, his was too deep to be comprehend.

Anyway, thank you to all the seniors and the juniors who took time to come over for a short meeting in college on Saturday (yesterday). We at SSLAA deeply appreciate your commitment. Ryan, its okay cuz you are back in your hometown. But once you are back, please fly into action!

On Benji's side, he already did great plans for the FTV thing already. I heard that they are gonna film some things with Peng's help and broadcast our SSLAA member's own videos on that day. Kudos to his team.

On the Event Management team on the other hand, the juniors would have a Hands-On experience of setting up an event ground. So Chia Zhing, Ivy and Yee Mun, come over at 8.30am on Tuesday ya! Benji would be there, Evon too, Aaron, and a few more who could really commit to coming in and help out.

Oh ya, who is holding the bunting (and if we have our IWW banners, do bring it over too), please remember to bring it over. Yangyang, SSLAA t-shirts too!! I would bring our sample IWW cards, pop badges and also our pride and joy, the IWW booklet that Yangyang made. Simply put, we want to show the passers by whatever we have done in the past.

Juniors who have yet to get their SSLAA t-shirts can get it on Tuesday itself. RM30 plus membership fees together (T-shirt = RM25, Membership fees was RM10, but we waive RM5 if you buy the t-shirt)

All members to wear SSLAA t-shirts when they are at the booth, or alternatively, black t-shirts if you have worn the t-shirt on the day before and it stinks and you have to wash it.

Timetable of member's availability is written below:

Tuesday:

Friday:

Michelle: 9.30am - 12.00pm; Ah O: 12.00pm - 5.00 pm; Evon: 9.30am - 5.00pm

For others whom i may have accidentally forgotten to update, please come around to assist. Especially for Thursday. Many of your seniors are taking Alternative Voices class so they would be affected from 2pm - 5pm.

---------

What would we be presenting on these days?

Tuesday: Event Management
Wednesday: MARCOM
Thursday: Journalism and FTV
Friday: Laidback.. Air some videos and recycle our materials. Friday's crowd is less, so it would be a good opportunity for seniors and juniors to know each other more.

---------

We would have a debriefing session at 4.30pm everyday after the event. During the session, we would discuss about the problems that we faced during the event (e.g. Don't know how to answer to questions), evaluate if responses from the crowd is good etc, and then brainstorm quickly on how to solve the issue and make the next day's event a better one. It would be a short debrief session.

--------------------------

Evon, could you help me up a little bit on how to promote PR and Marketing Communication? Brief ideas, probably some slide show etc that we can put on the laptop?

Yangyang, T-shirts, bunting and banners (all, if can)

Benji and Celine - thanks for compiling the videos. Others who wants to send videos, please pass to them

Laptop owners - Please volunteer your laptops to be used for SSLAA's publicity purpose. Thanks!

Anyone who has all the pictures of any SSLAA events, please save it all together. I guess i would compile them all and burn into CDs so that the next person who needs it can actually get the CDs easily rather than transferring online. Faster and more efficient. (Scan for viruses first. Haha)

Ah O is on leave for these few days. I guess she is tired. Haha. But she would resume and give ideas on what Journalism is all about. Journalism and FTV would be put to Thursday.

Also, Gerina is now officially placed as SSLAA's temporary Secretary and she would be writing the minutes of the meeting. She would also be in charge of all matters pertaining to the meeting's minutes and attendance would be taken. Please update her if you would/wouldn't be attending the meeting.

More updates soon...

We need support and help!!!

As all of us might have known, that in a few days time we shall be having the so-called 'Clubs Week'. Enough of the facts that this whole idea is to create a more happening campus, but at the same time we shall not forget to the fact that we are doing that to help promoting SSLAA as well.

So this is where all the help will be needed. Manpower checked. Venue checked. Ideas checked. The only thing that we need now is the help from you people out there, especially for those who had taken Video Production classes, Intro to Advertising classes to actually contribute to us your ideas and to 'lend' us your work so that we can actually show it during the recruitment drive at Clubs Week. Never mind the fact that you only produce the video for your own entertainment. Never mind the fact that you (juniors by all means or those who are not into Ftv) have not really learn how to shoot yet you had come out with your own work. We still want it.

*eyes rolling and heads are shaking* Why are we doing is? Is it relevant to our recruitment drive? I could hear people asking. The reason we are doing this is that we are actually tring to show people that SSLAA people are made up of people pf common interest, people who are passionate in doing something, and people who are not afraid of being seen and heard. We do not only target Mass Comm students, because at the same time, we are also targetting students who might be interested in making their own videos or write (in this case, I will like to request works by future journalists..anyone???) but they are from different school.

We will try to get LCD screens and projecters, but as all of us know how the people at Logistics, it will be a tall order since we do not have enough time to inform them. But by all means, we will try to get it.

We are hoping that you people out there can at least make this recruitment drive the coming week a success and to show the people out there that SSLAA is still kicking and alive. YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT MEANS EVERYTHING TO US.

Send all your works to ucsi.ssla@gmail.com, or the best way will be passing the work to Ah O (017-681 7223) or Benji (017 317 3754) in a pendrive as soon as possible. The deadline obviously will be by next Tuesday, when the Clubs week officially starts.

Thank you.
SSLAA BATU!!

More updates

I know that many are complaining about the meeting again.

And as much as you don't enjoy meetings, i dread having meetings too. After all, our meetings are always disorganized and overtly noisy. I dread that too.

But i guess we have not much choices now.

Sorry, Ah Loong, as I know you are living so far away. Its quite hard to catch a time that is suitable and convenient for you. And you're a Journalism student. I have other FTV students, MARCOM students with other classes clashing as well that we have not been able to put the meeting time earlier.

And also. I just remembered. Too busy to see until Jessie informed me. Our Club Week is actually on Tuesday - Friday. So that means... OH NO... More work to do!!

So please inform us once again when you are free. Monday is Wesak, i heard. So Friday, who is free? Please please say something people..... We need you ALL!!

Club Day ~or whatever they call it~

Folks,

The Student Council people (Stephanie, actually) just called me today and informed that we would be having a club day for 4 (freaking) days and we are supposed to PROMOTE SSLAA.

Okay. It sounds like a good idea to me. But lets think about the cons of having these people letting me know this news.
1. So late only let me know. Its Wednesday today and we actually are going to start promoting on this coming Monday - Thursday.
2. There would be many other clubs who would be opening their booths on the same day as us.
3. We need manpower and its kinda late to schedule for meeting. You all have some bitter members who hate to attend meetings so i guess even if i schedule for a meeting, many would not be able to turn up.

But nevertheless, i WILL still schedule for a meeting. Hahaha.. No choice, actually.

Next Meeting: Friday, 16 May 2008
Time: 4 - 6pm
Venue: Awaiting Mr. Ken to book C401 (after Video Production class) or if everywhere else fails, we can go to Cloth Zone (G39, CMC Giant) ... **I can hear people laughing**

I spoke to Ryan this afternoon, like, half an hour ago. And he requested for us to do something really crazy. I liked his idea anyway. We shall do our Model Search's Publicity on this Club Day thingie, and i guess Phang needs to bring his camera and be the cameraman for the few days already lah. We are going to do some photo shoots, attract more students to join SSLAA and we take pictures of them and send to them via e-mail, if possible. Hahaha..

We have lots to do, so I need to know WHO is interested in helping out to deal with our Model Search? Please leave a comment here below, whenever you are free because we need to discuss the details further.

Could i request for Benji to help out in this, specifically?

Okay. I will update more about this soon.

Special thanks to those whom I have approached just now who could help us out on a rotational basis to take care of the booth. Names below, please check whether I have keyed in the correct timing that you are available. Thanks!!

Monday:
Celine: 9.30am - 3.30pm; Gerina: 9.30am - 5.00pm; Zi Lin: 9.30am - 2.00pm; Bryan: 1.00pm - 5.00pm; Yau Phang: 1.00pm - 5.00pm; Jolene: 1.00pm - 5.00pm; Ah O: 11.00am - 5.00pm; Angeline: 9.30am - 2.00pm; Evon: 9.30am - 5.00pm; Ryan: 1.00pm - 5.00pm; Theresa, Li Lean, Kok Hao: 1.30pm - 3.00pm

Wednesday:

I guess we may need more people on Monday. Looking forward to others who have yet to tell me when they are free to drop me a message down at the COMMENT below so that i could update your schedule once again.

Yangyang, i need a softcopy of our SSLA logo to be sent to ruth_stephliew@yahoo.com soon, by tomorrow. Is that possible?

Benji, Corine, Ley Lynn, Mei Cher, Stephanie, Minh, Kenny and Cherry (so sweet) and the other juniors whom I happened to forget your names, please do send a comment back to this page.

I need everyone's support on this...

oi, which joker hor, put my name in that nomination list for Student Council har? Cheh.. I want to continue with SSLA lah, dun wana join Student Council, although they give me more benefit, but i prefer working with you all. What jokers la. I don't want to give up SSLA just to join Student Council (imagine working for Sudesh, and you'd know why)

SSLAA Meeting - 12 May 08

Hey peeps. I hope you all are ready and set to rock SSLAA once more. And for those who did not attend the meeting, SHAME ON YOU all.

Just joking anyway.

By the way, i would like to request for all members to give some idea(s) on what you all want to do/achieve for SSLAA. Ideas should be feasible (masuk akal and can be used and worked on) and for those who think they are up to handling responsibility, please send me an e-mail to indicate that you would like to join our Planning and Development team (the Brain dept of SSLAA) and help us out with our Association's planning.

Also, for those few people whom i have captured to be on probation (actually Evon no need probation one lah. But we shiok shiok put her in again.. Hahaha), i hope that it would be the time where more responsibilities would rest on your shoulders. Evon is starting Dodgeball club (or what you call it again? i 4got) so i guess i have to rely on the 3 stooges to help me out with the Association's further development.

Anyway, for those others who were not there (again) for the meeting, this 21st, we are having a Welcome Lunch for all the new and existing members. Details below:

Welcome Lunch
Day: Wednesday
Date: 21st May 2008
Time: 12.30-2pm

For those who has no choice but to skip class, please by ALL means do. If its Mr Ken's class, you are safe. But if its not.... Erm.... Adui....

Anything else, you all can drop an e-mail to ucsi.ssla@gmail.com or if you want a faster reply, obviously write to my e-mail is faster lah. cowsaysmoo87@hotmail.com (like as though we all don't know that cow says moo. Hahaha)

Ok lah. Enough of crapping. I guess i would disappear for a few more days. Update to be up on the next meeting's venue SOON... Have to see Sarah for the room. And Ms. Roslina said that its impossible for us to get a room for SSLA. Sigh. It belongs to Wu Wan Teng (or whoever he/she is) and it would be harder to get a personal space for SSLA members.

But not to worry, u all can come over to Cloth Zone and gather one if there is NO space, okay? Hehehe...

May 11, 2008
